Iran completes second stage of pipeline to import gas from Turkmenistan

Iran has announced the imminent completion of the second phase of the Turkmenistan-Iran pipeline through which Iran will import more than six billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Dovlatabad field in accordance with an agreement signed with Turkmenistan.

"The welding work has already been finished and the final stage of testing and running is close to completion," the National Iranian Gas Company reported.

Iran will import an average of 20 million cubic meters of gas per day from Turkmenistan with the launch of the pipeline, National Iranian Gas Company Managing Director Jawad Oudzhi said.

The first 35km-long section length of the pipeline was commissioned in 2009. Completion of the second phase and gas supplies are expected in time for winter.

The pipeline's length is 155 kilometers.
