Chinese companies produce a third of oil in Kazakhstan

Due to operations in 2009, the amount of oil extracted in Kazakhstan with the participation of Chinese companies, reached 25.8 million tons, a Kazakh Foreign Ministry's statement, disseminated during the meeting of foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and China, says.

"As a result of 2009, the amount of oil extracted in Kazakhstan with the participation of the Chinese companies reached 33.7 percent of the total production in the republic (76.5 million tons)," the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's statement announced.

Moreover, the share of the Chinese companies amounted to 16.7 million tons (21.8 percent of the total amount).

The Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Yang Jiechi, is on a visit to Astana. His visit will address the Kazakh President's forthcoming visit to China.

China ranks fourth on the list of trading partners with Kazakhstan. China's share in foreign trade with Kazakhstan exceeds 15 percent. In turn, Kazakhstan is the second biggest trading partner of China among the CIS countries (after Russia).

In January - October of 2010 the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China grew by 51.5 percent and amounted to $16.49 billion.
