Turkey, Northern Cyprus to sign agreement on hydrocarbon exploration

Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will sign an agreement on oil and gas exploration in the TRNC, the Hurriyet newspaper quoted Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as telling journalists recently.
Yildiz said Turkey also intends to purchase a vessel to carry out 3D hydrocarbon search, which would facilitate oil and gas exploration process.
The Turkish research vessel "Piri Reis" left the port of Urla for the shores of Cyprus to conduct oil and gas exploration and has already completed the first phase of work.
After Nicosia began working to develop the shelf near the shores of the island, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara will explore for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone of Northern Cyprus along with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
