"According to the preliminary calculations, the theoretical hydropower potential of all rivers in the territory of Azerbaijan hits 40 billion kilowatt hours," Azerenergy company (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) said on Tuesday.

According to the technical calculations, it is possible to use 16 billion kilowatt hours.

In particular, the operations are underway to construct small hydropower stations on the many mountain rivers to develop alternative and renewable energy sources in the country.

One of these facilities is the small hydroelectric power station Gusar-1. The station is being built and gets power from Jagar Jibir canal. At present, the construction is underway near the Urwa village, at the height of 1,020 meters above the sea level, the message said.

The total capacity of the station will hit about one megawatt. The water speed must hit 3.5 cubic meters per second to generate electricity. The village Urwa and nearby settlements will be provided with electricity generated by the station.
