The Georgian government is looking for a new investor for the Namahvan hydropower plant (Namahvan HPP) project construction, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Mariam Valishvili told media.
"An 18-month contract with a Turkish investor has expired. We could not agree with him and stopped business relations. We have no legal relationship with the investor. There is no new investor either," she said.
Korean-Turkish consortium should have begun the construction of Namahvan HPP cascade in the second half of 2011 and complete it in six years. The project needs investing in the amount of $2 billion.
Cascade Namahvan HPP subsidiary company of the Oil and Gas Corporation notified about its interest for the design of hydroelectric reservoir (200 MW and above), procurement and construction, the Georgian Energy Ministry reported.
Positive experience in similar complexity projects is one of the main criteria in selecting the contractor.
The applying companies must submit the necessary documents no later than April 2.
Cascade Namahvan HPP project envisages the construction of cascade over the Rioni river in the western Georgia. Its capacity is 450 megawatts. There will also be built three HPP and transmission lines.
The total investment for construction is $800 million, the construction period is 5 years.
