Baku Port ups transhipment of dry cargo in January-April

In January-April 2012 the Baku International Sea Trade Port transhipped 2.12 million tons of various cargo, or six per cent less compared to the same period of 2011, a source at the port told Trend on Wednesday.

In 2011 the port transhipped 6.7 million tons of various cargo, or 16 per cent more than the same period in 2010.

According to a source, 1.26 million tons of the total volume transported in January-April, fell to ferry cargo, or two per cent less than in January-April 2011.

The dry cargo terminal of the port transhipped 385,000 tons of cargo during this period, or six per cent more than January-April 2011, the source said.

In January-April the port handled 2020 containers, or 50 per cent less than the same period of 2011.

The decrease is stipulated by the reduced volume of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan through Central Asian countries.

The port handled 9230 containers in 2011, or 41 per cent less than the same period of 2010.
