German experts to provide SOCAR with feasibility study of large gas project in Azerbaijan

German E.ON will soon submit the final version of a feasibility study for the gas network reconstruction and modernisation project of Baku and the Absheron peninsula to SOCAR, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Monday.

The source said that the process of coordinating the document was conducted in three phases. The variants of the feasibility study had been gradually submitted to and agreed with SOCAR.

"Accordingly, the conclusions and proposals on each variant of the feasibility study were presented,' the source said. "The company must submit a final version of the document based on comments to SOCAR soon." The source also added that the German experts will soon arrive in Baku for this purpose.

The gas distribution system reconstruction project of Baku envisages minimising gas loss, expansion of the existing gas distribution system its reconstruction and renovation given the increase of population and sustainable development of industry, meeting the increased demand for gas in the future.

Baku and the Absheron Peninsula's gas system is the largest in the country and covers about 650,000 subscribers. Some 90 per cent of the existing infrastructure should be updated for its reconstruction and modernisation.

A total of 800-900 million euros may be spent on the project.
