Iraq, Jordan agree to construct new pipeline

Iraq and Jordan have agreed to construct a new pipeline to supply light and heavy crude oil and gas condensate from Iraq to Jordan, Iraqi Oil Ministry's official representative, Asym Jihad told Trend on Friday.

Iraq and Jordan have agreed to construct a new pipeline to supply light and heavy crude oil and gas condensate from Iraq to Jordan, Iraqi Oil Ministry's official representative, Asym Jihad told Trend on Friday.

In this regard, a memorandum of cooperation was signed. Under the agreement, Iraq will increase oil supply to Jordan from 10,000 barrels per day up to 15,000 barrels per day.

According to Jihad, supplies via the new pipeline will be made if Iraq has free volumes, as well as depending on the Jordanian side's needs.

Also, following the agreement, the parties will start work on the implementation of the project to construct a gas pipeline to transport Iraqi gas to Jordan.

The parties also agreed to conduct joint exploration of hydrocarbon fields.
According to BP, Iraq's proven oil reserves amounted to 143.1 billion barrels as of late 2011.

The country ranks third in OPEC after Saudi Arabia and Iran. BP reported that oil production in Iraq amounted to 2.798 million barrels per day in late 2011.

The main oil fields in Iraq are in the south. This Rumaila, Zubair, Nahr Umr, Majnun and West Qurna. 80 percent of the oil produced in Iraq is exported.
