The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) intends to purchase a seismic vessel from Norway for oil and gas exploration, Dünya reported on Thursday.

According to the newspaper, the two parties are preparing to sign an agreement in the coming days. Purchase of the new vessel will cost the corporation $165 million.

It is expected that the vessel will arrive in Turkey in the first quarter of 2013.

Turkey actively searches for oil fields to reduce dependence on oil products from abroad.

Recent exploration operations in Sinop were not effective.

After Nicosia (Greek Cyprus) began working to develop the shelf near the shores of the island, which is divided into Greek and Turkish sections, Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus began exploring oil and gas in the special economic zone of Northern Cyprus.

Moreover, the country conducts oil exploration in the Black and Mediterranean seas.
