In January 2013, Iraq exported a total of 72.8 million barrels of oil compared to 72.5 million barrels in December 2012, a spokesman for the Iraqi Oil Ministry Asym Jihad told Trend on Tuesday.
In January, Iraq exported 2.359 million barrels a day against 2.340 million barrels in December 2012.
As a result, the country's income from oil exports totaled $ 8.2 billion in January against $ 8.3 billion in December.
Of total exports, 64.9 million barrels account for the city of Basra, whereas Kirkuk's share in export stands at eight million barrels.
According to BP, as of late 2011, the proven oil reserves of Iraq amounted to 143.1 billion barrels, placing the country third in OPEC after Saudi Arabia and Iran. Oil production reached 2.798 million barrels per day in Iraq in late 2011.
The main oil fields in Iraq such as Rumaila, Zubair, Nahr Umr, Majnun and West Qurna are located in the south. Some 80 percent of the oil produced in Iraq is exported.
