By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

"Azerkimya" Production Association of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan plans to begin using the pallet with the purpose of providing polyethylene supply to European countries, the head of the sales department of the company, Rufat Katibli told Trend.

"The construction of the plant for the production of pallets is planned to be completed by end of this year," he said.
The production produced at the "Azerkimya" is exported to such countries as Turkey, China, Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, USA, UAE, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Russia, Belarus, the Baltic countries and Central Asia, the department head said.

Turkish Petkim concern is one of the constant and reliable partners of the production association in which SOCAR has equity participation. Propylene and pyrolysis resin produced at the production association are supplied to the enterprises of the Turkish concern for further processing. The finished products, in more liquid condition, are successfully sold both in the Turkish and European markets.

"As it is known, the Chinese market is one of the largest and most stable markets in the world. During the past four-plus years we have been able to occupy a stable position in this niche. Today, a stable demand has been established for our products in China. The shipments are made in transit through the Poti port in this direction," Katibli said.

The majority of petrochemical products produced by "Azerikhimiya" production association are exported through transit via the Georgian ports of Poti and Kulevi, the association's representative said. However, conditions have been created for transshipment of chemical products, in particular propylene at the SOCAR oil terminal in Kulevi (Georgia).

This enables providing stable shipments of "Azerkimya" production. It should be noted that the Batumi terminal is a specialized terminal and intended for transshipment of liquefied natural gas, which did not allow the shipment of propylene in the summer due to its technical characteristics. Moreover, it was necessary to begin to adjust to the schedule of the terminal with shipments through Batumi terminal.

Katibli, via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway [its construction will be completed in the near future] will be one of the main export destinations, which will provide an opportunity to make direct rail shipments of Azerbaijani goods to Turkey and further to Europe.

It is planned to construct a new 105 kilometer branch railway as part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project. In addition, the section of the Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Marabda railway will be reconstructed in Georgia which will increase its capacity to 15 million tons of cargo per year. It is planned to build a center in Akhalkalaki for the transition of trains from the existing train tracks in Georgia to the European one.

Peak capacity of the corridor will be 17 million tons of cargo. This figure will be at the level of one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo in the initial stages.
