The level of technical losses in electricity distribution networks is scheduled to be reduced from 16.5 to 6.5 percent in Azerbaijan by 2020, according to Deputy Director of Energy Department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy Asaf Rzayev.

In turn, the level of energy loss is planned to be reduced from 4.3 to 2.8 percent by 2020 in the energy transmission lines, he said.

An investment in the amount of $4 billion is needed for a serious reduction of losses in the electricity network in the country, according to the deputy director.

The level of energy losses in electric networks in the regions of the country is 18 percent, and in Baku - 9 percent.

Azerbaijan's energy capacity grew by 40 percent by reaching 7,100 megawatts for ten years. The basis of the electricity potential of the country currently account for 14 thermal and 10 hydroelectric power plants.
