Serbia is considering the possibility of joining the Southern Gas Corridor, Shahin Mustafayev, the co-chairman of the commission, the minister of economy and industry, said as part of the fourth meeting of the Azerbaijani-Serbian intergovernmental commission Sept. 28.

"This takes a special place in the version of the protocol to be signed today," Mustafayev said. "This issue will be additionally considered today during the meetings held in SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) and the Azerbaijani ministry of energy."

"Moreover, the sides are considering the possibility of cooperation in the field of renewable energy," Mustafayev said.

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić said that the power engineering is one of the main areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia.

"We are greatly interested in Azerbaijan to become one of the suppliers of gas to Serbia," Ljajić said. "In this regard, we plan to hold talks between the Azerbaijani and Serbian companies."

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian Sea region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.

At the initial stage, the gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.

As part of the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz development, gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
