SOCAR commissions new wells in Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR will additionally produce over 15,300 tons of oil annually due to the commissioning of three new wells at the Western Absheron offshore field, SOCAR’s Azneft Production Union said in a message Nov. 21.

Twelve tons of oil are extracted daily from the well #33 from the depth of 718-633 meters, and 15 tons of oil are extracted daily from the wells #34 and #36, according to the message.

The Western Absheron field is owned by SOCAR’s Absheronneft Oil & Gas Extraction Department.

SOCAR-AQS carries out the drilling operations on the field on the basis of an agreement.

SOCAR produced 6.2 million tons of oil at Azerbaijan’s offshore and onshore fields in January-October 2017, as compared to 6.32 million tons in the same period of 2016.

SOCAR produced 7.52 million tons of oil at those fields in 2016, as compared to 8.16 million tons in 2015. Along with SOCAR, foreign companies also extract oil in Azerbaijan. In total, 41.03 million tons of oil were produced in Azerbaijan in 2016, as compared to 41.58 million tons in 2015, according to SOCAR.
