SOCAR reveals volume of Russian gas imports in 2017

Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR received 349 million cubic meters of gas from Russia's Gazprom in 2017, Head of Gas Export Department at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR Gagamali Seyfullayev said in an interview with the “Iki Sahil” newspaper.

“The volume of Russian gas imported by Azerbaijan hit 349 million cubic meters,” he said.

The deliveries are being carried out under the contract signed in Moscow on Nov. 21, 2017. Under the contract, it is planned to deliver 1.6 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to the Azerbaijani market in general.

Earlier, Gazprom’s Board of Directors decided to open a representative office in Azerbaijan.

There are two gas storage facilities – Kalmaz and Garadagh – in Azerbaijan. Capacity of Azerbaijan’s underground gas storage facilities allow to store more than 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

In October, 2009, “Gazprom Export” LTD and SOCAR signed a mid-term contract on supply of gas from Azerbaijan for the period 2010-2015 through the delivery point Shirvanovka on the Russian-Azerbaijani border.

“Gazprom Shvayts” a subsidiary of “Gazprom Export” LTD had carried out supplies to “Azerbaijan Methanol Company” (AzMeCo) in 2015. A total of 107,4 million of cubic meters of gas was supplied in the framework of the contract.
