Production volume to remain unchanged in Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field: ministry (Exclusive)

Gas production at the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field amounted to 14.2 billion cubic meters in the three quarters of this year, which provided an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the same period last year, Kazakh Vice Minister of Energy Magzum Mirzagaliyev told Trend.

He noted that gas production at the Karachaganak field is expected to reach 18.9 billion cubic meters by the end of this year.

At the end of 2017, the volume of gas production from the Karachaganak field also amounted to 18.9 billion cubic meters, providing an increase of 7.2 percent compared to 2016.

Mirzagaliyev also spoke about the project providing for the removal of gas production restrictions at the Karachaganak field.

"It is one of the major investment projects to maintain the level of production at Karachaganak at 11-12 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons per year. The project includes the installation and commissioning of additional gas treatment facilities at the Karachaganak processing complex to obtain additional gas treatment capacity of 12 million cubic meters per day," the vice minister said.

Mirzagaliyev added that gas production at the Karachaganak field accounts for 35 percent of the total gas production in Kazakhstan.

Oil and gas production at the Karachaganak field is carried out by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating consortium. The shares in the consortium are as follows: Eni - 29.25 percent, Royal Dutch Shell PLC - 29.25 percent, Chevron - 18 percent, Lukoil - 13.5 percent and KazMunaiGas - 10 percent.
