Tehran, Iran, Oct. 19

Trend:

The fifth refinery of South Pars Gas Field's Phase 10 has undergone an extensive overhaul, Head of the Exploitation Unit of the Refinery Mostafa Jahankhah, said.

"The overhaul of the refinery in cooperation with all operational units have begun, taking into account all safety precautions and practices,” Jahankhah said, Shana news agency reported on October 19.

The overhaul and maintenance aim to improve energy management, safety and environment processes at the refinery, he noted.

“We are trying to be fully prepared for the cold season by having a stable gas network,” Jahankhah said.

Iran is keen to upgrade its aging gas infrastructures to keep up competition with Qatar in gas production from the joint South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf. The field is estimated to contain 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

It is currently producing around 450 million cubic meters of gas per day, but plans to ramp up output to 1.2 bcm/d in five years.
