Deputy Head of Uzbekenergo Akmal Abbasov said that the company plans to implement 14 investment projects with a total value of $4.4 billion in 2019, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

He said that the construction of gas turbines, power lines and the modernization of low-voltage networks are among these projects.

Abbasov noted that Uzbekistan continues to work on the construction of a new 500 kV power line Surkhan-Puli-Khumri. The construction of this line will increase the export of electricity from 2.5 billion kW/h in 2018 to 8 billion kW/h.

Uzbekistan plans to develop alternative sources of electricity generation. Akmal Abbasov stressed that the German company Siemens is expressing interest in the construction of wind power stations with a capacity of 100 MW in Uzbekistan.

He stated that the EBRD provided funds to finance the construction of combined-cycle plants with a capacity of at least 900 MW at the Talimarjan Thermal Power Plant (TPP), as well as to create the related infrastructure.

The installed capacity of power plants in Uzbekistan exceeds 14.1 million kW and is about 50 percent of the generating capacity of the entire Unified Energy System of Central Asia.

Uzbekenergo includes 49 enterprises, including 36 joint-stock companies, 6 unitary enterprises, 7 limited liability companies and a subsidiary of the company, Energosotish (Energosbyt).
