GE is supplying high-voltage equipment for 500 kV substation in Azerbaijan

The US-based General Electric Company (GE) is currently supplying high-voltage equipment for a 500 kV substation in Azerbaijan, the company told Trend.

“GE is currently supplying and installing high-voltage equipment, a relay protection system, and also uses an automated control system for a 500 kV substation that supplies the national grid with energy from Azerbaijan’s key Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant,” said the company.

GE said the high-voltage equipment, a relay protection system and a process control system manufactured by GE are also installed as part of a project to expand the Mingechevir hydropower station, the largest one in the Caucasus.

“GE's advanced technologies and global expertise are used in the spheres of energy, petrochemical, aviation and health sectors of Azerbaijan. Today, GE is involved in key infrastructure projects in partnership with leading companies in the country,” said the company.

GE said it actively cooperates with Azerenergy JSC, helping to increase the reliability of the national power system of Azerbaijan.

“In particular, four 9E turbines of GE with a capacity of 780 MW have been installed in the Janub Thermal Power Plant in the city of Shirvan,” said GE.

GE supplies oil and gas equipment for projects of mining, transportation, liquefaction, compression, processing and storage of hydrocarbons carried out onshore and on the shelf of the Caspian Sea. The main customers of GE in the oil and gas sector are the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan SOCAR, BP, Azerbaijan International Operating Company and Caspian Drilling Company.

GE successfully supplied compressors for the TANAP within the framework of cooperation with SOCAR. GE equipment is also used in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli projects.
