The volume of cargo transportation by sea in Azerbaijan from January through October 2019 stood at 4.893 million tons, or 28.3 percent less compared to the same period of 2018, Trend reports citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.
Around 34.4 percent of the transportation by sea accounted for oil cargo, reads the data released by the committee.
Cargo transshipment by seaports stood at 6.775 million tons, with 6.214 million tons or 91.7 percent accounting for transit cargo.
The volume of cargo, which remained at seaports stood at 195,900 tons as of Nov.1, 2019.
Passenger transportation by sea rose by 30.9 percent from January through October 2019, compared with the same period of 2018, and totaled 17,800 people.
All Azerbaijani ports (Baku, Astara, Lankaran and Sumgayit) are located on the coast of the Caspian Sea. The Baku port has large oil terminals in Dubendi and Sangachal.
