BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and the Russian Altmax Holding Ltd company signed a memorandum on construction of a gas-fired thermal power plant, Trend reports citing TASS.

The cost of the project is estimated at $1.8 billion and will be a continuation of the project on development of "25 years of independence" gas field, where Altmax Holding Ltd. is the main shareholder.

"Russian VTB and Gazprombank are also interested in investing in the project. Moreover, Russian equipment manufacturers will also take part in financing the project by providing their products via credit on preferential terms for 15 years or more," the message said.

The capacity of the new power plant will not only meet the local needs of the region, but also create a reserve, including for the export of electricity to neighboring regions and countries.

In the south, Uzbekistan borders three potential markets at once - Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
