Turkmenistan reveals volume of natural gas supplied to China

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

The volume of Turkmen natural gas supplied to China amounted to about 2 billion cubic meters in June 2020, Trend reports with reference to Rhythm of Eurasia information portal.

In 2019, Turkmenistan's Turkmengas State Concern delivered 31.2 billion cubic meters of gas to China, and in April 2020, the level of supplied gas was 69 million cubic meters per day.

The gas is supplied via the Central Asia-China gas pipeline, which starts from border of Turkmenistan, and then passes through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Some 316 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been pumped from this gas pipeline for the entire time of its existence.

As Embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan earlier told Trend, about 260 billion cubic meters of natural gas were exported from Central Asia to China via Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan–China gas pipeline, and more than 80 percent of this volume accounted for Turkmenistan.

The biggest part of the gas supplied from the Turkmen side was extracted from the fields operated by Turkmengas State Concern.

The embassy added that a new field in Bagtyyarlyk contractual PSA territory is being put into operation in the country. The exploration and development of this field are carried out by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

CNPC signed the Bagtyyarlyk Production Sharing Agreement with Turkmenistan in 2007, and began to purchase natural fuel in Central Asia since 2009, after the launch of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China through the territories of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
