Azerbaijan increases electricity generation

The power plants in Azerbaijan generated 15.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through July 2020, which is 7.1 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the report of the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, 14.6 billion kilowatt-hours of the total volume of generated electricity accounted for commercial consumption, which an increase of 7.3 percent over the year.

Of the total volume of commercial electricity produced during the reporting period, the share of thermal power plants (TPPs) accounted for more than 13.8 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 10.4 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.

Hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) of Azerbaijan generated 758 million kilowatt-hours of electricity for the specified period, a decline of 37.2 percent.

During the reporting period, the volume of electricity generated through wind power stations in Azerbaijan made up 61.2 million kilowatt-hours, showing an annual decline of 1.16 times.

Solar power plants produced 27.1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is 5.4 percent more compared to the same period of last year.
