Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries will sign a contract with the Turkish Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S company for the construction of two gas turbines and the reconstruction of a power plant at the refineries, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The corresponding decree was signed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

According to the decree, the contract will be concluded at the expense of Turkmenistan's funds.

The decree also prescribes to hand over the object within 18 months with full readiness for operation.

Following an international tender, Turkey’s "Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S." modernized the power plant in Mary city in southern Turkmenistan.

The modernization project included the repair of turbines and the purchase of necessary spare parts, equipment, materials, and chemicals.

In September 2018, a combined gas-steam power plant with a capacity of 1,574 megawatts was commissioned on the territory of the Mary power plant in southern Turkmenistan.

The project was implemented by the Turkish company "Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S." with the participation of the US company General Electric.

The new combined-cycle power plant is designed to generate 12.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

It is expected that the project will ensure the growing energy consumption in the country and increase the export of electricity.
