Gas consumption in Iran surges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 15

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The gas consumption in the housing and trade sector in Iran increased by 27 percent yesterday (November 14) compared to the daily average of the past Iranian week (Nov. 7 through Nov. 13), Caretaker of the Dispatching Department of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad Reza Joulaei told IRNA, Trend reports.

The official noted that 445 million cubic meters of gas were consumed in Iran yesterday.

Joulaei added that while in the last Iranian week, an average of 350 million cubic meters of gas was consumed daily.

“Due to the drop in weather temperature in recent days, the gas extraction from the South Pars gas field has declined, which has resulted in a decrease in Iranian gas exports,” he said.

Joulaei stressed that Iran's gas exports are expected to reach the required level tomorrow (November 16).

According to him, 130 million cubic meters of gas were transported to Iran's thermal power plants yesterday.

As reported, Iran's daily gas extraction exceeds 1 billion cubic meters in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020).

At present, Iran's gas exports amount to 79 million cubic meters per day.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field. Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
