By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Kazakhstan Development Bank (DBK) is currently supporting implementation of several projects in energy and mining-metallurgical sectors of Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region, Trend reports citing DBK.

One of the projects is the construction of a mining and processing plant for processing polymetallic ores in Zhairem village of the region, the capacity of which will be 5 million tons of ore per year. The project is being implemented by a subsidiary company of Kazzinc. The overall project cost is $424 million, nearly $100 million of which were provided by DBK.

The construction of the new plant is envisaged in two stages. As part of the first stage, construction of a heavy medium separation workshop and mining operations will be carried out (development of Zapadny open pits and later – Dalzapadny pit, as well as the Zhairem deposit).

The plant is to be commissioned in 2021. The capacity of the new concentration plant will be 5 million tons of polymetallic ore per year, with the production of 460,000-480,000 tons of lead and zinc flotation concentrates.

Another project is construction of a processing plant and modernization of the existing foundry of Qaz Carbon LLP. The overall project cost is 12 billion tenge ($28.3 million). The launch of the processing plant is planned for 2021. The plant's capacity will be 300 tons per hour or 1,800,000 tons per year.

The produced goods will be coal concentrate, the main consumer of which will be the Karaganda Ferroalloy Plant LLP. Share of the products will also be exported, the rest of the products will be used as raw materials for the company's own needs.

Energy project, i.e. the expansion of the Karaganda thermal power plant is also being implemented in Karaganda region.

The project includes the modernization of the existing third thermal power plant, the construction of a new power unit with an installed capacity of at least 110 MW, a thermal capacity of at least 180 Gcal/hour.
