The first refrigeration compressor produced by Iran's Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC) was launched at the 10th refinery of Iran's South Pars Gas Company (SPGC), said Hamidreza Masoudi, the Executive Director of the POMC, Trend reports citing POMC’s official website.
According to Masoudi, the foreign equivalent of this compressor was out of order. Its manufacturer has refused to provide any services due to US sanctions against Iran.
He added that so, the POMC manufactured domestically the compressor and other equipment needed at the refinery, including a turbo exporter.
The director emphasized that with the launch of this equipment, daily propane production of the refinery increased to 2,000 tons, and butane production to 1,250 tons.
The gas extracted from the 19th phase of the South Pars gas field is transported to the 10th refinery of the South Pars Gas Company. The refinery has the potential to produce 50 million cubic meters of sweet gas, 77,000 barrels of gas condensate, 2,400 tons of ethane, 1,800 tons of propane, 1,100 tons of butane, and 320 tons of sulfur per day.
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $80 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.
Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
The South Pars gas field has the potential to produce daily 700 million cubic meters of gas and Iran is currently extracting 630 million cubic meters of gas per day from the gas field.
The US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies, and individuals.
