Second stage of tender for construction of photovoltaic plants in Uzbek regions announced

The second stage of the tender (RfP - request for proposal) for the construction of two photovoltaic plants in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions within the Scaling Solar 2 project was announced on December 15, 2020 for the companies that passed the first stage of the tender (RfP), the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan told Trend.

According to the ministry, the documents were sent to provide proposals from Uzbek companies.

The ministry also said that currently a brief overview has been prepared on the upcoming project on construction of solar photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 500 MW in the Bukhara, Khorezm and Namangan regions with the consulting support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), within the framework of the Scaling Solar 3 program, and posted on the official website of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

It was noted that the announcement of the first stage of the tender is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021. It is also reported that potential sites in the Bukhara, Khorezm and Namangan regions were selected for the construction of solar photovoltaic stations.

Commenting on how the operation of power plants in three regions of Uzbekistan will affect the energy sector of the country, the ministry noted that with the successful implementation of the project and commissioning, the power plant's capacity will amount to 500 MW.

“The project will increase the generating capacity of Uzbekistan, and will also generate about 1200 million kilowatt hours of electricity,” the ministry stressed.
