The Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company, which is located 105 km south-east of Ahvaz city, 84 km east of Abadan city in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran) produces the chemical products, namely, caustic soda, vinyl chloride, ethylene dichloride, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), hydrochloric acid, salt, gas products, ethane, propane, butane (LPG), pentane, ethylene, olefin, polymer products, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), aromatic products, benzene, mixed xylene and paraxylene.

The US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies, and individuals.
