By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

The continuous maintenance of overhead power lines is an integral part of SOCAR’s Black Sea Terminal’s planned maintenance program, Trend reports citing the terminal’s website.

The terminal is used for shipment of crude oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, gas oil, methanol, aviation fuel, propylene, liquid pyrolysis resin, naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, diesel fuel with ultra-low sulfur content, industrial oil, and condensate.

The terminal in the Kulevi port was put into operation in May 2008, and the transshipment of oil products was launched in June. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of liquid bulk oil cargo per year, including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel, and four million tons of fuel oil. The total capacity of the tank farm of the terminal is 402,000 cubic meters.

“The key to maintenance success is our Planned Maintenance Strategy, which entails the continuous monitoring of both the quality and efficiency of maintenance work. This strategy helps uncover any deficiencies and helps us plan preventive/corrective actions for extending the life of various equipment and devices. To support this strategy many technologically advanced devices have been installed at the terminal,” reads the message on the terminal’s website.

“Critical applications require maximum uptime and when a problem occurs, the downtime needed for restoration and repair must be minimized. Reliable power has a direct impact on most aspects of an automation system and the equipment it controls. Electrical systems are subject to a wide variety of power quality problems, which can interrupt industrial processes and affect sensitive equipment. Power quality problems can also result in unnecessary downtime due to equipment failure. The demand for reliable and uninterruptible power delivery requires keeping HV overhead power lines in operation as much as possible without disruption.

Achieving this goal requires inspections and maintenance work, which is required to assess the condition of the HV overhead power lines, masts, insulators, and all other components in order to identify hazards and components that have deteriorated to the extent that failure is likely and eliminate the potential of the failure. The continuous maintenance of overhead power lines is an integral part of Black Sea Terminal’s planned maintenance program.”
