The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) supplies petrol stations in Georgia with solar energy, Trend reports citing SOCAR.

According to the SOCAR data, since 2019, SOCAR has launched a project to install solar panels at petrol stations in Georgia.

“In recent weeks, the project has also equipped a petrol station on the Tbilisi Sea (reservoir) with solar panels. The company's two filling stations are currently solar-powered. Experts of the German Sonnerschmied company were involved in the design and installation of solar panels at filling stations, who work in accordance with the requirements of a single certificate of the European market and international standards,” the company said.

According to the company, the capacity of solar panels installed on an area of 200 square meters on the roof of the petrol station, is 39.6 kW, which allows producing 48,000 kWh of energy per year.

“The solar panels will be used to meet the energy needs of petrol stations, power electric vehicles, and meet the needs of Way Mart shopping centers, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 28.7 tons. The company is currently exploring the possibility of implementing larger projects in this direction,” the message said.

“SOCAR plans to create a network for autonomous and accelerated power supply of electric vehicles, including through solar energy. It is the first company to launch such large-scale projects in the oil and gas sector of Georgia,” the message said.

In its activities in Georgia, SOCAR is guided by five basic standards of corporate social responsibility - youth development, protection of women's rights, assistance to the elderly and disabled, labor safety, and ecology.

The company is playing a leading role in equipping the gas station network in the neighboring country with chargers for electric vehicles. SOCAR also participated in the restoration of most of the forests destroyed after the fire in Borjomi and organized tree planting on two hectares.

Besides, SOCAR has signed major projects on environmental protection in Azerbaijan. The company is engaged in such large-scale activities as cleaning oil-contaminated areas and wastewater, waste disposal, preventing the release of associated gas into the atmosphere, and annually planting more than 100,000 trees on the Absheron Peninsula.
