By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

There is room for further cooperation between Croatia and Azerbaijan in the energy sector, especially in areas significant for the common EU energy policy such as RES, decarbonisation, new technologies in the energy sector, etc, Croatian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development told Trend.

“Energy cooperation between Croatia and Azerbaijan is very good. Croatia appreciates all the support received from Azerbaijan and SOCAR and we hope that IAP will be a new source of gas for Eastern and Southeast Europe,” said the ministry.

Ionian Adriatic Pipeline can be connected to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to transport gas to many countries in South-East Europe.

The pipeline with total length of 516 kilometers will stretch from Albania through Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to split in Croatia.

The capacity of the pipeline will amount to five billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Azerbaijan started gas deliveries to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the final leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, on December 31, 2020. TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.
