BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Around 96 billion cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas have been exported through the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) since the launch of the pipeline in 2006, Trend reports with reference to bp, the project operator.
Shah Deniz is being developed in phases. In February 2003, the Shah Deniz partners sanctioned the first phase of the development of the field. It comprised both an upstream and a midstream development including the construction of a single platform with pipelines back to the Sangachal terminal near Baku and the construction of a new gas export system - the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) - from Azerbaijan through Georgia to the Turkish border.
Since the start-up of commercial gas production from the field and operations of SCP in 2006, Shah Deniz has been safely and reliably providing gas to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
During the first quarter of 2021, the Shah Deniz field continued to provide deliveries of gas to markets in Azerbaijan (to SOCAR), Georgia (to GOGC and SOCAR), Turkey (to BOTAS) and to BTC Company in multiple locations. Gas deliveries to buyers in Europe that started on 31 December 2020 also continued during the first quarter of 2021.
The existing Shah Deniz facilities’ production capacity is currently over 58 million standard cubic metres of gas per day or more than 21 bcma.
Shah Deniz participating interests are: bp (operator – 28.8 percent), TPAO (19 percent), PETRONAS (15.5 percent), AzSD (10 percent), LUKOIL (10 percent ), NICO (10 percent) and SGC Upstream (6.7 percent).
