Russian petrochemicals company considers construction of gas chemical complex in Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Russian petrochemicals Sibur company considers the possibility of building a gas chemical complex in Uzbekistan, the company's general director Mikhail Karisalov said, Trend reports with reference to RUPEC Information and Analytical Center.

According to Karisalov, Sibur, together with Russian Gazprom Neft, discusses options for participation in the expansion project of the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex in Uzbekistan.

“The options for our participation are different - from co-investment in the development of an asset to a product offtake,” Karisalov said.

At the end of 2020, Uzbekneftegaz signed cooperation agreements with Sibur and Gazprom Neft. Then it was reported that the companies would evaluate the possibility of participating in the implementation of two projects - the creation of a gas chemical complex using MTO technology (methanol to olefins) and the expansion of the production capacity of the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex.

In 2001, Uzbekneftegaz put into operation the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex on the basis of the Shurtan gas condensate field in the Kashkadarya region. The design capacity of the complex with processing amounts to 3.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas amounts to 125,000 tons of polyethylene, 100,000 tons of liquefied gas, and 100,000 tons of unstable condensate per year.

It was noted that the project on expansion of Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex provides for the commissioning of additional capacities for the production of polymers – 280,000 tons of polyethylene and 100,000 tons of polypropylene.
