Turkmenistan and the European Union (EU) are committed to the process of bringing Turkmen energy resources to European markets, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This was stated during the meeting of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian.
The parties talked about the current situation of economic, energy and transport cooperation, as well as the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of sustainable transport and the environment, including at the United Nations (UN) platform.
The special demand for projects in the field of green and sustainable economy, rural development, support for the private sector and assistance to the country's efforts to join the World Trade Organization was emphasized.
Turkmenistan welcomes the support of the European side in the implementation of regional transport and energy projects along the "East-West" line, including the "Caspian Sea – Black Sea", the Lapis-Lazuli Transit, Trade & Transport Route and others.
The importance of regular high – level political consultations in the "European Union-Central Asia" format, as well as regional and other projects was emphasized.
As earlier EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso told Trend, the EU is in the process of planning cooperation with Turkmenistan for 2021-2027.
"The EU plans are yet to be finalized, but, generally speaking, the EU plans to focus on promotion of green aspects of economy as a precondition for meeting the objectives of the National Development Plan, achieving relevant SDGs objectives, and creating job opportunities and fostering inclusive growth," he had said.
