Azerbaijan raises gas exports via BTE pipeline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 15

Azerbaijan exported approximately 11.2 billion cubic meters of gas via Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE) pipeline from January through August 2021, which is 40.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee's report.

In the same period of 2020, the volume of gas transported via BTE pipeline amounted to over 7.96 billion cubic meters, the report says.

“The share of gas transported through this pipeline in the reporting period accounted for 49.5 percent of the total gas transportation. This figure increased by 9.4 percent for the year,” the report added.

In total, over 22.6 billion cubic meters of gas were transported through the main pipelines of Azerbaijan from January through August 2021, which an increase of 12.3 percent, or 2.79 billion cubic meters on annual basis.

The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline is over 700 kilometers. This gas pipeline transports gas produced at the Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijani gas is supplied by pipeline to Georgia and Turkey.
