BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 29
By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:
Uzbekneftegaz has shipped 633,000 tons of sulfur contained in natural gas, since the beginning of 2021 to the domestic and foreign markets, which is 4 times more than last year, Trend reports referring to Uzbekneftegaz.
Of this amount, 224,600 tons, worth $4.5 million accounted for exports, while 408,400 tons, worth $7.6 million - for the domestic market.
On average, the Mubarek Gas Processing Plant of Uzbekneftegaz produces 340,000 tons of sulfur per year.
The reason for the increase in the residues of sulfur was the decline in exports.
The export of sulfur products of Uzbekneftegaz JSC in 2018 and 2019 amounted to 75,700 and 56,900 tons, respectively, while in 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this figure dropped to 7,500 tons.
The drop in demand for products and export volumes during these periods led to a sharp excess of sulfur production residues at the Mubarek Gas Processing Plant in 2019-2020, and the production volume as of January 1, 2021 amounted to 724,500 tons.
The shipment of 633,000 tons of sulfur made it possible to reduce the balance of sulfur residues at the plant by three times.
The sulfur product is mainly used in agriculture, mining and chemical industries, for the production of mineral fertilizers, sulfuric acid, matches and other chemicals.
