Iran develops sustainable water supply plan amid drought

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct.11

Trend:

Iran develops a sustainable water supply plan to prevent the impact of a shortage of rainfall, Iranian Energy Minister said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Iran Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian made remarks on the sidelines of the First Water Supply Council meeting, today on Sunday, October 10.

The plan will provide drinking, agriculture and industry needed water supply, he said.

He added that the forecasts indicate that the rainfall in the autumn is less than normal, but in winter the situation will be better.

Mehrabian indicated that the Ministry intends to manage the water resources in such a way as to provide sustainable water during the drought.

The total rainfall amounts in the previous year have decreased by an average of 37 percent compared to the average of the last half-century, said the Minister.

Iran's water resources have been depleted to about 19 billion cubic meters of reserves, he added
