Iran eyes low gas consumption in steel sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 27

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Gas consumption in Iran’s steel sector is about 5 percent, Chairman of the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) Bahram Sobhani said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

He made the remark during a seminar to research the gas problem in the country’s steel sector.

Sobhani noted that at present, more than 800 million cubic meters of gas were consumed in Iran per day. About 30 million cubic meters of which are accounted for the steel sector.

The official added that however, if there are any problems with gas consumption in the country, they first cut off gas supplying to the steel sector.

"For example, if there are any problems with gas supply to Mobarakeh Steel Company and Esfahan Steel Company, the downstream industry, including the automotive sector, manufacturing household appliances, as well as equipment for the oil and gas sector, and so on, will face problems," he said.

Sobhani also pointed out that companies and enterprises with a capacity to produce 30 million tons of steel in the country definitely need gas.
