There are currently 44 thermal power plants in Iran being managed by public sector, Trend reports via the statistics of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH).
This means 32.6 percent of the total thermal power plants operating in Iran are owned by the public sector.
According to the statistics, 71 percent of steam-fired thermal power plants, 26.5 percent of gas-fired thermal power plants and 17.9 percent of combined-cycle thermal power plants are owned by the public sector.

In total, 587 units operate at 129 thermal power plants in Iran, which have capacity to generate a total of 69,969 megawatt-hours of electricity.
There are 102 units at 25 steam-fired thermal power plants and the electricity generation capacity of them is 15,829 megawatt-hours.
In addition, there are 273 units at 69 gas-fired thermal power plants with the generation capacity of 22,145 megawatt-hours of electricity.
At the same time, there are 212 units at 35 combined-cycle thermal power plants in the country with the capacity to generate 31,995 megawatt-hours of electricity.
The total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) is currently about 85,559 megawatt-hours. About 81 percent of which is accounted for thermal power plants.
