Union of Petroleum Products Importers talks fuel price increase in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 15

By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

Despite the increase in oil prices in the international market, a significant increase in fuel prices in Georgia is not expected, the Chairman of the Union of Petroleum Products Importers Vano Mtvralashvili said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to the chairman, Georgia has already observed an increase of 22 percent since the beginning of the year, and fuel prices may increase to a total of 25 tetri (8 cents) in the long term.

“Despite positive trends in regard with the national currency’s stability, fuel prices have already increased in Georgia. Nevertheless, the next increase will not be as drastic as expected,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Wissol Petroleum Georgia Vasil Khorava noted that fuel prices in Georgia will be maintained until December fuel imports run out, but, due to the oil price increase, it will be complicated for importing companies to maintain the current price.

“Fuel import cycle in Georgia is 2-3 weeks. The current cycle was extended given that January was not an active month in terms of sales. This allowed us to increase our 2-3 week cycle. We hope that during this period the growth trend in the international market will not continue,” the CEO said.
