BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 26. Transferring the subjects of digital mining to the consumption of electricity from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is planned in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Bulat Aqchulaqov stated in his speech at the Central Communications Service (CCS), Trend reports via CCS.

According to him, work is currently ongoing to identify the subjects of digital mining, but there are already some proposals in the plans.

"The Ministry, as part of further regulation of these entities, proposes the following - the introduction of licensing digital mining activities; the determination of quotas for the consumption of electricity by digital mining entities; the introduction of a moratorium on connecting capacities for new miners; the transfer of digital mining entities to electricity consumption from RES and imports. All this is being done in order to balance and bring into line the balance in the market for the production and consumption of electricity in order to avoid unreasonable shortages," the minister emphasized.

The energy system of Kazakhstan faced the problem of electricity shortages in previous years - in the period from 2007 through 2012, there was also a shortage of electricity, he also added.

As a response, the program "Tariff in exchange for investment" was adopted with the introduction of marginal tariffs for electricity. As a result, the shortage was eliminated and a medium-term power reserve was created by commissioning 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of new capacities and restoring 1.7 GW of existing ones, Aqchulaqov added.
