BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 12. The ongoing overhaul at Baku Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev won’t affect the domestic fuel supplies, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR told Trend.
“Modernization and reconstruction work is underway at Baku Refinery in order to increase the plant’s production capacity, ensure Euro 5 fuel supplies in the country, to minimize the environmental impact, ensure uninterrupted raw materials’ supply to Azerikimya production union and increase the potential of oil products’ exports,” the company said.
Reportedly, operational efficiency and sustainability program is carried out at the refinery as part of the project. Work load for 2022 overhaul at Baku Refinery has been determined and a complex action plan has been worked out in this regard.
The refinery has been suspended for major overhaul since April 4, 2022 after a break of more than one year. The work will involve more than 2,000 people from SOCAR and other organizations.
SOCAR has taken necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted motor fuel supply in the country during the overhaul period. Some units at former Azerneftyagh, which was included in Baku Refinery, will continue functioning to produce some volumes of kerosene, diesel and gasoline. The country’s diesel and kerosene demand will also be covered by Baku Refinery’s reserve, which has been created since February 2022.
