bp evaluating hydrocarbon resource in Shafag-Asiman well

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.3. In the first half of the year, bp completed the interpretation of the results of the reprocessing of the data obtained from the first exploration well - SAX01, drilled in the Shafag-Asiman offshore exploration contract area, Trend reports via bp.

The company said that the evaluation of the hydrocarbon resource encountered in the well and planning of the next stage of exploration activities are ongoing.

In December 2022, bp and SOCAR signed a protocol to extend the Shafag-Asiman exploration period for six months until the end of June 2023 to allow completion of the seismic data re-processing study,” said the company.

A 30-year contract on Shafag-Asiman was signed in October 2010. The forecasted reserves of the Shafag-Asiman block stand at 500 billion cubic meters of gas and 65 million tons of condensate.

The drilling of the SAX01 exploration well was completed in March 2021 with a total depth of 7,189 meters at the base of the Fasila unit. The well encountered gas condensate resource in some of the penetrated reservoirs.
