BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Gas transportation through the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) has seen a notable increase, Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, over 18.2 billion cubic meters of gas were transported via the pipeline between January and October 2023. This marks a significant rise compared to the 17 billion cubic meters transported during the same period in 2022.
The volume of gas supplies through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline has surged by 6.7 percent, demonstrating a robust growth compared to the corresponding period last year. Notably, this pipeline accounted for 55.2 percent of the total gas transported through Azerbaijan's primary gas pipelines in 2023, a notable increase from the 53.8 percent recorded during the same period in 2022.
In total, Azerbaijan's main gas pipelines transported almost 33 billion cubic meters of gas from January to October 2023, reflecting an approximately 4 percent increase from the previous year's 31.7 billion cubic meters.
The South Caucasus Gas Pipeline (SCP) has been in operation since the end of 2006, facilitating the transportation of gas from the Shah Deniz field to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye. Commercial deliveries from the expanded section of the pipeline to Türkiye commenced in June 2018, followed by deliveries to Europe in December 2020.
The shareholders of SCP Co include bp (operator - 29.99 percent), SGC (21.02 percent), LUKOIL (19.99 percent), TPAO (19 percent), and NICO (10 percent).
