BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 28. Iran has increased its electricity generation to more than 92,000 megawatt-hours, Trend reports.
According to the data from the Iranian Energy Ministry, the boost came from the inauguration of a gas unit with a capacity of 183 megawatt-hours at a combined cycle power plant in Hormozgan Province, in the south of the country, on November 27, 2023.
The power plant belongs to Iran’s Al-Mahdi Aluminum Company, which is constructing a 546-megawatt-hour combined cycle power plant. The project will consist of two gas units of 183 megawatt-hours each and one steam unit of 180 megawatt-hours. The first gas unit of the power plant created 80 jobs for the local population.
The power generation of Iran’s thermal power plants (TPPs) has reached 74,888 megawatt-hours since the start of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023), with the launch of several power units across the country.
According to the updated data, Iran has 141 TPPs with 623 power units in operation.
Iran’s Al-Mahdi Aluminum Company produced about 148,000 tons of aluminum in the previous Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
Previously, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., was approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent accounted for the country’s thermal power plants.
