BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 19. Iran's daily crude oil output has increased by 60 percent over the past 2 years, said Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr, deputy oil minister and CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), at the 2nd Petro-Tech conference in Tehran, Trend reports.
Khojasteh Mehr noted that this is considered an important achievement of the current government in the oil sector.
According to the latest OPEC report, Iran's crude oil production in November 2023 was 3,128,000 barrels per day, representing an increase of 7,000 barrels compared to October.
The deputy minister added that Iran intends to increase crude oil and gas production by using artificial intelligence and digital technology.
"It is proposed to use artificial intelligence to operate 15 oil and gas fields in the country for this purpose. In the first stage, an accord was made between Iran's Sharif University of Technology and the NIOC. The Iranian portion of the South Pars gas field, which is a joint venture between Iran and Qatar, will be handled using artificial intelligence under the terms of the deal,” he said.
The 2nd Exhibition and Conference of Technology Management and Increasing Knowledge-Based Production in the Petroleum Industry began today in Tehran.
There are currently 74 oil and 22 gas fields in Iran. So, 37 oil fields are operating in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 14 fields are Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), 5 fields are Arvandan Oil and Gas Company (AOGC), and 18 oil fields are Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).
In addition, 5 gas fields are operating in the territory of the NISOC, 13 fields are under the ICOFC, 1 field is under Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), and 3 gas fields are under the IOOC.
Iran’s total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion barrels. With the available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 340 billion barrels. Thus, 30 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 70 percent remain underground.
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
