BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 4. Iran has launched 1,660 small-sized solar power plants of 5 kilowatts each for low-income families on February 4, Trend reports.
As the Ministry of Energy of Iran stated that the installation of these stations cost over 2.2 trillion rials (around $52.4 million).
These stations are spread across 17 provinces of the country. Various organizations that support low-income families, the Ministry of Energy of Iran, and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization of Iran collaborated in building the solar power plants.
In total, Iran has a renewable energy capacity of roughly 1,090 megawatts, largely from solar power facilities.
On December 25, 2023, Iran has started construction of solar power plants that can produce 4,000 megawatt hours of electricity. The solar power plants are expected to be operational by the summer of next year (July 21, 2024).
Currently, the power generation capacity of all of Iran's power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
