BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. The STAR oil refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye has experienced a notable rise in naphtha production, Trend reports.
According to data from the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the refinery produced 176,025 tons of naphtha in January 2024, compared to 151,123 tons in the same period in 2023, marking a 16.5 percent increase.
The STAR refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with loans covering about $3.3 billion of the project's cost.
With an annual refining capacity of approximately 10 million tons and the capability to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day, the refinery plays a crucial role in the region's energy landscape.
SOCAR Türkiye has outlined plans to suspend operations at the STAR refinery for maintenance in 2024, marking the first shutdown since its commissioning.
The scheduled repairs aim to optimize operational efficiency, with measures implemented to extend the interval between maintenance shutdowns to five years, potentially saving up to $40 million.
