BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. The volume of crude oil refining at the Baku Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery (BAR) from January through March 2024 decreased by 5.9 percent against the figure of the same period in 2023, the data of Azerbaijan's energy ministry said, Trend reports.

"The refineries processed 1.6 million tons of oil from January through March 2024, against 1.7 million tons in the first quarter of 2023," the materials of the ministry read.

However, the decrease in the indicator was due to the decline in oil production in Azerbaijan as well as the ongoing modernization at this refinery.

To note, the refinery celebrated 70 years of activity in 2023. Its refining capacity is 6.0–6.5 million tons of oil per year, but after modernization, it will be 7.5 million tons per year.

The refinery produces 30 products and is preparing to accept oil from Kazakhstan for refining, which is under negotiation.
